BRC SUMMER YOUTH CAMP

2025, Over 50 Years of Happy Campers...

The Brockville Rowing Club's Summer Youth Camp is the perfect way for young adventurers to dip their oars into the sport of rowing while having a blast on the St. Lawrence River!

For over 50 years, our camp has been the starting line for young rowers - some just trying it for fun, other destined for Canadian National Teams, earning scholarships, and even becoming provincial and national champs!

Whether your child is looking for a fun summer challenge, a way to make new friends, or a sport they can grow with, our camp is where it all begins.  No experience needed - just a love for the outdoors and a willingness to try something new.

Spaces fill up fast, so don't miss the boat!  Sign up today and get your child out on the river this summer.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions about the BRC's Summer Youth Camp.

For additional questions, please contact:  camps@brockvillerowingclub.com

Our summer camp program is designed for kids between the ages of 11 - 14.

Why 11 - 14 you ask?  Rowing is similar to a sport like golf, in that learning how to hold the equipment (and in our case, sit in the equipment), is a skill in and of itself.  We've found that the age range of 11 - 14 is the sweet spot for kids to be tall and mature enough, as well as to be able to fully understand the sport and have a ton of fun doing it!

There are two different styles in rowing: sweep (one oar per person), and sculling (two oars per person). There are also two different disciplines in the sport: traditional/flat-water rowing, and coastal/ocean rowing.

Here at the BRC, we're fortunate enough to be able to offer all of the above to our campers! They can expect to learn how to row in several different boats, in each style, and try out both disciplines!

Safety is #1.  Every morning, the BRC staff will determine if the weather is suitable for rowing that day.  If it is too windy or there are chances of thunder showers, campers will have fun doing on-land activities in the clubhouse and surrounding area.

Gloomy weather?  Don't worry, our councillors will keep your camper busy with a smile on their face!

Rowing is a on-water sport. While there are risks to being on a body of water, the Brockville Rowing Club takes pride in the safety measures we employ to ensure everyone can have a fun and safe camp experience.

We require that all campers are able to swim to attend the BRC's Summer Youth Camp Program. A swim test is done on the first day of each camp week to ensure everyone meets our swimming standards for rowing.

If you, your camper, or the BRC feels that a individuals swimming skills are not where they need to be to safely be on the water, we provide certified PFDs for those campers.

The Brockville Rowing Club is proud to offer financial assistance to families who are unable to pay the full registration fee.

Thanks to the assistance of generous donor and benefactors of the community, the BRC can continue its Summer Youth Camp mission to offer our experience to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances.

Please email camps@brockvillerowingclub.com for any matters regarding financial assistance, and we would happily assist. Rowing is for everyone, and it's our goal to help break down barriers of entry for rowing in the Brockville and surrounding areas.

Cancellations happen, we get it.

If you need to cancel a sign-up for one or more weeks of our Summer Youth Camp, we require a minimum of two weeks notice from the first day of the camp.

Provided we receive a full two-weeks notice, we will refund you 50% of the registration cost or a spot in a future camp week (pending availability). Refunds will not be provided if the cancellation is received with less than two-weeks notice.

For any questions, or to cancel a registration, please email us at camps@brockvillerowingclub.com.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
