The Brockville Rowing Club is excited to announce the start of its Bantam and High School youth rowing programs this fall with 25 athletes taking to the water. This group includes 15 Bantam (U15) rowers, graduates from the BRC’s successful 2024 Summer Camps, and 10 competitive (U17/U19) rowers pulling from all four of Brockville's secondary schools - Brockville Collegiate Institute, St. Mary’s High School, Thousand Islands Secondary School, and Ange-Gabriel.
Bantam athletes are scheduled to train three times per week, and will focus on basic skill development, on-water safety and rowing terminology. The goal for Bantam athletes is to eventually join the competitive high school and club rowing programs. This fall, these junior athletes have had the exciting opportunity to train the club's recently acquired Kaschper 8+, a boat that will significantly enhance their experience working as a team on the water.
The club’s competitive athletes are fully engaged, with on-water training scheduled every weekday morning (weather permitting) and additional on-land workouts twice per week after school. As the season progresses, these athletes will intensify their training in preparation for the Nancy Storrs Ontario Indoor Rowing Championships (St. Catharines) and the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships (Toronto), both set for February.
"We are excited to kickstart our youth programming alongside the start of a new school year, said Will Mulcahy, Director of Operations and Head Coach at the Brockville Rowing Club. "Both our Bantam and competitive rowers are showing great commitment, and we’re eager to support them as they advance their skills and prepare for upcoming the dryland season."
