Brockville Rowing Club Welcomes Will Mulcahy as New Head Coach and Director of Rowing Operations

The Brockville Rowing Club (BRC) is excited to announce the appointment of Will Mulcahy as the new Head Coach and Director of Rowing Operations. Will brings a wealth of experience, a deep connection to the club, and a passion for the sport that the will propel the club forward.

Will Mulcahy's journey with the Brockville Rowing Club began when he was just a child. Starting at BRC’s Summer Camp in Grade 6, Will was inspired by watching his older siblings, Rachel and James, compete at regattas. His involvement with BRC began at the age of 3 or 4, making his return to the club a homecoming of sorts.

After his initial stint at the BRC Summer Camp, Will joined the competitive program for five years, competing through high school at Brockville Collegiate Institute (BCI) and during the summer after his first year at Queens University. At Queens, Will served as the coxswain for the Men's varsity lightweight team in his first year and the Women's varsity heavyweight team in his second year. In his third year, Will transitioned to coaching, becoming the Lead Novice Men's Coach, and in his fourth year, he worked as a Talent Identification Coach under the guidance of Phil Marshall.

During the summers of his university years, Will returned to Brockville to coach, eventually stepping into the Head Camp Counsellor role. There, he collaborated with Chris Marshall to implement new strategies for running camps and introduce new competitive programs at BRC.

In 2019, Will accepted a Graduate Assistant Position at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, where he completed his Master of Science in Organizational Leadership. As the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men's and Women's Varsity Rowing Programs at Mercyhurst, he also developed a Novice Rowing Program, showcasing his ability to nurture talent at all levels.

After his time at University, Will returned to BRC to continue coaching before taking on a role with the Ontario NextGen Performance Centre in Welland, Ontario, as a NextGen Performance Coach. During his three years in Welland, Will played a pivotal role in developing top-tier athletes for international competitions.

"We are thrilled to welcome Will Mulcahy back to the Brockville Rowing Club in this pivotal role," said Michael O'Shaughnessy, President of BRC. "His extensive experience, deep roots in our community, and proven track record in developing rowing talent make him the perfect fit to lead our club into the future."

As the new Head Coach and Director of Rowing Operations, Will has been charged with revitalizing the club’s programs, particularly focusing on youth development and competitive success. His vision includes fostering a supportive and dynamic environment where athletes can excel and achieve their full potential.

"I am honoured to return to the Brockville Rowing Club and lead the next generation of rowers," said Will Mulcahy. "This club has always been my home, and I am excited to give back and help our athletes and the club reach new heights."
